*Level 7 requirements: Boxers must have completed a minimum of three (3) Level 6 Courses/Rounds BEFORE registering in and participating in Workshop A.
The Advanced Boxing Workshops will be a series of four 90-minute workshops that will introduce experienced Level 6 boxers to advanced boxing skills including defensive tactics/counter-punches and boxing strategy. The intent is to provide boxers with additional insight into the sweet science and develop new skills that can be incorporated into their regular workouts. Each workshop will include demonstrations of new skills, individual skills development and a series of partner drills. The workshops will cover the following main themes:
Workshop A: Fundamental Defensive Skills:
Will include a look at advanced footwork, the finer points of both slips and duck/rotate as well as blocking and parrying straight punches. The workshop will finish with partner drills and a modified 6x station workout (including hand-pads) to solidify the skills learned.
Workshop B: Advanced Defensive Skills:
Following on from the skills learned in Workshop A, this workshop will focus on defensive skills against hooks to the head and body, body shots and upper-cuts. While the workshop will not include actual sparring, a series of partner drills will simulate sparring situations.
Workshop C: Counter-Punching and Sparring Strategy:
Based on the skills covered in the first two workshops, this workshop will introduce counter-punching techniques that can be used in conjunction with defensive moves, the workshop will also include an introduction to sparring strategy such as combining defensive tactics with punching combinations and footwork.
Workshop D: Recreational Sparring:
The final workshop will provide an opportunity for boxers to participate in recreational sparring and put into practice all of the skills they have learned at Phoenix Boxing.
